『ブラジリアン・アンダーグランドの或る極致Holandêsのワールドツアー東京公演が決定』
Holandêsはブラジル・レシフェを出身とするプロデューサー/DJで、彼の音楽は本国のメインストリームとは大きく趣を異にしている。
Holandêsは、若干25歳のPedro Motaによるエレクトロニック・プロジェクトで、ファンキ・プロイビダオンというジャンルでキャリアをスタートしている。ファンキ・プロイビダオンとは「強く禁止されたファンク」を意味する、ギャングへの賛美や暴力、過激な描写を直接的な歌詞にするのを特徴とした、バイレファンキのサブジャンルだ。
しかし、Holandêsの変遷は徐々にエレクトロニック・ミュージックへと傾倒し、最新EP『BAILE』ではブレイクビーツやテクノ、ダブに、バイレファンキの要素がスパイスとして加わった特殊な音楽が展開されている。 DJセットでもベース・ミュージックやエレクトロニック、テクノ、ドラム＆ベースにブラジリアン・ミュージックが縦横に行き来する、エナジティックでいて没入的な音像が繰り広げられる。
OUT OF SYNCは、バイレファンキかけ子が主催する、このHolandêsという特殊なアーティストを迎えるための新しいパーティラインだ。今回、バイレファンキかけ子は宇宙チンチラとの新ユニットgalaxychinchilla & kakekoでのラインナップで、両者のやりとりは専門性と音楽の制約からの解放の共存を期待させてくれる。
日本を代表するジャングル・パーティ/コレクティヴTribal Connectionの生き字引DJ YAHMANとHolandêsのセッションは双方違った方向からも、強固な連結を見せるかもしれない。ブラジル音楽の豊かなリズムに正面から答えうる、膨大な情報と豊潤なイマジネーションは爆発的な相乗効果を引き出してくれるかもしれない。
Yurushite Nyanの出演は東京の進行形ビートの選抜としてに他ならない。Yurushite Nyanのラインナップはこのパーティの肝になっておりOUT OF SYNCのコンセプトの骨子になっている。
2月にTYO GQOMのレーベルUSI KUVOからデビューEP『Amaharashi』をドロップしたmoemikiの登壇も決まった。最新作は、鋭く疾走する高音と重く硬い低音、暗黒と光、コンテンポラリーとノスタルジーの絶妙な共存が、緻密なビートの上で繰り広げられるゴルジェ、ジューク/フットワークの名盤で、この作品を引っさげての登壇に期待せずにはいられない。
さらに、超前衛パーティ“テキストを挿入”を主催するPomaeraのクルーNeetorium *43.の、ラテンコア名義Alcoólicoの参戦も越境を促してくれそうだ。
Holandêsの出演の可能性の追求が平日開催という形にはなったが、国内でこの種のDJを体験できる極めて稀な機会をぜひ堪能してほしい。
“A Singular Extreme of the Brazilian Underground: Holandês Confirms a Tokyo Date on His World Tour”
Holandês is a producer and DJ from Recife, Brazil, whose music stands far apart from the country’s mainstream sound.
Holandês is the electronic project of 25-year-old Pedro Mota, who began his career in the genre of funk proibidão. Literally meaning “strictly forbidden funk,” funk proibidão is a subgenre of baile funk characterized by direct lyrics that glorify gangs and depict violence and other extreme subject matter.
Over time, however, Holandês gradually shifted toward electronic music. On his latest EP, BAILE, elements of baile funk are used as a distinctive accent within an unusual hybrid sound shaped by breakbeats, techno, and dub.
His DJ sets move freely between bass music, electronic music, techno, drum and bass, and Brazilian music, creating a soundscape that is both highly energetic and deeply immersive.
OUT OF SYNC is a new party series organized by BAILEFUNK KAKEKO, created specifically to welcome an artist as singular as Holandês. For this edition, BAILEFUNK KAKEKO will perform as galaxychinchilla & kakeko, a new unit with Uchuu Chinchilla. The exchange between the two promises a coexistence of musical expertise and liberation from musical constraints.
A meeting between Holandês and DJ YAHMAN, a living archive of Tribal Connection—one of Japan’s leading jungle parties and collectives—may reveal a powerful connection between two artists approaching rhythm from different directions. DJ YAHMAN’s vast musical knowledge and rich imagination, capable of responding directly to the rhythmic abundance of Brazilian music, may generate an explosive synergy.
The appearance of Yurushite Nyan represents nothing less than a selection from the cutting edge of Tokyo’s evolving beat scene. Yurushite Nyan’s inclusion is central to the party and forms a key part of the conceptual foundation of OUT OF SYNC.
Also joining the lineup is moemiki, who released the debut EP Amaharashi in February through USI KUVO, the label operated by TYO GQOM. The record is a standout work of gorge and juke/footwork, in which sharp, rushing high frequencies and heavy, rigid bass coexist with darkness and light, as well as contemporary and nostalgic sensibilities, all unfolding over intricately constructed beats. It is difficult not to look forward to moemiki’s appearance with this latest work behind them.
Further crossing of boundaries will come from Alcoólico, the Latin-core alias of Neetorium *43., a member of Pomaera’s crew. Pomaera organizes the radically experimental party.
The pursuit of an opportunity to bring Holandês to Tokyo has resulted in a weekday event, but this remains an exceptionally rare chance to experience a DJ of this kind in Japan. We strongly encourage you not to miss it.
